The Different Types of Commercial Fridges

The commercial fridge is one of the most important pieces of equipment of any commercial facility that needs to store products below a certain temperature level. As such, it needs to be powerful and reliable enough to deal with the conditions of any commercial environment, which includes being opened and closed many times a day. After all, a commercial refrigerator will likely have thousands of dollars worth of stock inside it at all times. With that said, picking the right type of commercial fridge for your facility is extremely important. With the many different types of commercial refrigerators available today, an inexperienced buyer may have a hard time selecting the model that best suits their needs. For that reason, distinguishing the differences between the different types is essential to picking the right type.

Upright Commercial Fridges

These refrigeration units are the most common type of commercial fridges. They have the advantage of height, allowing them to fit into tight spaces. If you have more than enough floor space available, these fridges can be huge and they can offer more storage capacity than any other type of fridge. Some of the features that upright fridges boast include a compact footpring, fast and easy access, adjustable shelves, gastronorm compatibility, etc.

Open Display Fridges

An open display fridge, or an open air cooler is specifically designed for front-of-house use. An open air cooler is ideal for merchandising chilled products and they're commonly seen in grocery stores and markets. This category includes many different types of fridges, such as beer fridges, serve-over counters, countertop merchandisers and multideck fridges.

Counter Fridges

Counter fridges are waist high are specifically designed to provide under counter storage and a worktop food prep area. Their surface is typically constructed of durable materials like stainless steel, and you can place other kitchen appliances on top of them. With that said, counter fridges are very flexible, offer gastronorm compatibility, they're space-efficient and they're available in many different sizes.

Undercounter Fridges

Undercounter fridges are more lightweight and compact when compared to other models, and they provide fast access to products without taking up counter space. These fridges are ideal for areas with limited space, and you're able to put them in places that would otherwise be left unused. These fridges have solid doors and operate quietly with little to no disruption. Due to their small size, they're very energy-efficient and are virtually silent, making them ideal for intimate restaurants and hotel rooms.
