Outdoor Lounge Care Guide

Having a new outdoor lounge furniture is always good, if you can afford it. Buying a whole new patio set costs some money, and not everyone can afford it at any time. In that case, the other option would be to try and rejuvenate the old one. With just a few techniques and products you can easily transform your old outdoor furniture into a completely new outdoor lounge.

Whether you have a nice canopy bed, a honeymoon lounge bed or a nice wicker patio set, the one thing they all have in common are cushions. Outdoor lounge furniture is generally made from a supporting material and cushions to sit on. These cushions can be made from various materials, and as such placed outside on the open, are highly exposed to weather conditions. During fall and winter your outdoor lounge setting collects dirt and in order to be fully functional I spring and summer, you need to clean it. Here is a short and simple guide on how to take care of your outdoor furniture to make it look like new outdoor lounge:

  1. Light stains.
Wind, rain and cleaning around in the yard can cause your furniture some light soiling, and those small stains will prevent your outdoor lounge furniture to look like new. To clean light stains make a mixture of warm water and a mild detergent. Use a clean sponge or soft, scrubbing brush and gently brush the cushion's surface. Afterwards rinse well with clean water and leave it to dry. For heavy soiling you may need to use a stronger detergent.
  2. Watermarks.
Watermarks aren't necessarily a result of spilled liquid on your cushions; they may occur as a result of an uneven drying or wetting. To prevent these from happening, make sure you're careful with the drying process; always expose the entire cushion to sun for even drying. The same goes for wetting; wet the entire surface, not just the stain spot.
  3. Mildew.
Due to humidity and moisture levels, mildew may develop on your cushions despite the fact that they are designed with a special blocide within the fabric that remains active through the life time of the product. To prevent mildew on your cushions, you should get specialized products for cleaning it and clean your furniture at least once a year.
